GOALS AND OBJECTIVES:
Ø Enjoining good and forbidding evil.
Ø Encourage the young and old alike to regularly attend the Mosque for prayers, to improve their knowledge and to meet their fellow believers on a daily basis.
Ø Organize lectures on various Islamic topics in English and Somali.
Ø Assist all level students with their homework.
Ø To visit local schools from kindergarten to colleges and encourage students to attend the weekly Jumuah prayers and listen to their problem. We need to educate the school authorities about the importance of this prayer and find ways to facilitate their letting Muslim students to attend the Jumuah prayers. Also educating school authorities about Halal food and Hijab for our sisters.
Ø Offer a specialized summer program composed of Islamic Religious studies with emphasis on Quran memorization, Tafseer, Hadith, Fiqh and ways to become a better Muslim.
Ø We also offer extra-curricular activities such as Soccer and Basketball
to stay fit and competitive tournaments (For details see article on youth programs).
Ø Help new Muslim immigrants settle and assimilate into our
Community. This involve providing transportation, temporary shelter,
and acting as a guide and attending to their needs. We should not
leave our responsibilities on other non Islamic organizations with their own hidden agendas. Muslims must take care of their brothers and sisters who are in need.
Ø At a weekly level we hold a general meeting every Friday after Isha prayer. At this meeting the Majlis is opened with recititation of the Holy Qur’an and introductions for new members then a brief Kitab (Aqida Al Wasidia Q&A for this month) is presented by: Ahamed Abdirahman (Yemeni), then the discussion is opened to all.
In the meeting many youth issues are discussed. Progress reports of ongoing activities and plans for future ones are also discussed. Here every brother’s idea and input is highly encouraged. Duties are assigned to all as appropriate.
Before closing, members present are given two audio tapes and several copies of a written article.
This is to be given to other brothers and sisters anywhere as a jumpstart of conversation in order to make friendship then eventually encourage them to frequent the mosque and adhere to the Islamic guidance.
